This extension of the Upper Ground project, which arose from the Urban Design Strategy we developed for London’s South Bank, applies the same urban design principles to the prominent Riverside Walk that links the various cultural and community facilities along the River Thames embankment.
This flagship project involved opening up the popular route between the London Eye and Tate Modern to make it more attractive and welcoming to visitors and Londoners. The existing Bernie Spain Gardens were upgraded to provide a relaxing green space along the walkway and cycle racks and seating installed as part of the National Cycle.
This stretch of the riverside now attracts over 10 million visitors annually as well as being a resource enjoyed by all who live or work in the area.
